NFL Network's 'Good Morning Football' signs off for final time from N.Y.

NFL Network on Friday aired the final episode of “Good Morning Football” originating from its N.Y. studios. Co-host Jason McCourty said, “There are a lot of emotions going on right now. … This is the last ‘Good Morning Football’ in New York City. We’re going to make it a memorable one.” Fellow co-host Kyle Brandt, who wore a “I (heart) N.Y.” sweatshirt, noted the show will return this summer in its new studios in L.A. He said, “We are going to be a little nostalgic today, but also very excited about the future.” There were clips interspersed throughout the show featuring memorable moments from the N.Y. studios, as well as several N.Y.-themed segments. SBJ's Austin Karp earlier this month broke the news that the popular show was relocating to NFL Media's HQ in Inglewood.

CLOSING TIME: Brandt, who has been on the show since it began in 2016, gave thanks to many of the program’s behind-the-scenes personnel and said, “I am saying goodbye to all of these people, but I’m not saying goodbye to you.” He said, “I know you have questions, because I’ve seen them -- ‘Why is this happening?’ ‘Who’s going to L.A.?’ ‘Why would you take something that you got so right and change it?’” Brandt: “Some of those answers I don’t know. Some of those are not mine to give. Candidly, I have a lot of questions myself. Here’s what I know: I personally will be intensely involved in ‘Good Morning Football’ moving forward, and I want to spend the rest of my career with the NFL. ‘Good Morning Football’ is not ending. It is expanding. And it’s exciting, because it’s a bigger show, it’s more show.” He concluded with, “I am very, very proud of what we built here -- me, Peter, Jamie, Jason, Nate, Kay. It has been a dream job” (“Good Morning Football,” NFL Network, 3/29).

Social Reaction to GMFB's N.Y. Finale:

  • NFL Network's Sherree Burruss: "Getting to say 'welcome to ‘good morning football’ coming to you live from New York City' was a dream and a career highlight! What a run in NYC! To all the amazing people at the breakfast table and behind the scenes that make the show incredible -- THANK YOU!"
  • NFL Network's Jamie Erdahl: "Hormonal emotional roller coaster over here."
  • USA Today's Sam Cardona: "It's sad to see GMFB leave N.Y., as someone who worked on the show as a PA and a producer, there are some amazing and incredible people working on that staff. and i hope nothing but the best for everyone apart of it, and hope L.A. is what everyone hopes it is."
  • SI's Jimmy Traina: "It’s so baffling and sad that the NFL doesn’t appreciate the gem they have in GMFB and are willing to mess with the show, cast and chemistry to save a few bucks."
  • SiriusXM's Scott Laughlin: "Took a few years for @nflnetwork to find the right Morning Show. Then they hit the Mother Load. This has become appointment viewing for me over the years, a show on par with 'Inside the NBA'. Here’s hoping for more of the same once the move is complete. #KeepTheTeamTogether."
