Red Wings To Announce Arena Name Within 60 Days; Inaugural Event Will Be Concert

Olympia Entertainment President & CEO Tom Wilson yesterday during a walk-through of the construction site said that the name of the Red Wings’ new $600M arena "will be announced in the next 60 days," according to Adam Graham of the DETROIT NEWS. Wilson said that the inaugural event at the new building, which is due to open in September '17, will "likely be a concert." The arena’s suites "will seat 30 and hold up to 40 people." Wilson said that the suites are "twice the size of those at The Palace of Auburn Hills." The arena will feature six loading bays, which will "drastically expedite the loading and unloading process at concerts." Wilson: "The day we open this, it should be the finest arena in the country, and it’s in downtown Detroit" (DETROIT NEWS, 3/10). Wilson said that the arena will "accommodate up to 22,000 attendees for shows in the round and about 15,000 for a standard concert configuration." He added that about 12,000 of those seats "will be in the venue's lower bowl." Wilson also said that "all 40 of the arena's corporate suites have been sold" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 3/10).
