Aston Villa's Tom Fox Resigns After Reportedly Being Pushed Out By New Team Chair

EPL club Aston Villa CEO TOM FOX is the "latest casualty in the club's nightmare season," as he has resigned from his role paying US$1.81M annually, according to John Percy of the London TELEGRAPH. Sources said that Fox's position was "untenable." Sources said that Fox was "left with no option but to resign" after it became clear new team Chair STEVE HOLLIS was "planning for the future without him." Fox was hired by Aston Villa Owner RANDY LERNER in August '14, "leaving his post" as Arsenal Chief Commercial Officer (London TELEGRAPH, 3/18). Hollis, who has "been at the club for two months," will become Exec Chair while a search is conducted for Fox' permanent replacement (PA, 3/17). In London, Neil Moxley writes Fox' arrival was "supposed to breathe fresh life into business-matters" for the club. But Fox's "achilles heel was laid bare" for everyone to see. In soccer -- "unlike the boardroom -- there is nowhere to hide." Moxley: "Fox himself may have graduated with distinction in management babble, he was -- and to be fair he admitted so himself -- lacking in terms of English football knowledge" (London DAILY MIRROR, 3/18).
