Football Notes: Klopp Questions UEFA Disciplinary Procedures

Jürgen Klopp questioned the consistency of UEFA's disciplinary procedures after Marouane Fellaini "escaped a ban" ahead of Liverpool's second leg against ManU. Fellaini clearly elbowed Liverpool midfielder Emre Can "in an off-the-ball incident late on in the first leg at Anfield." However, UEFA "opted not to take retrospective action against the Belgium international, who is available for Thursday night's clash at Old Trafford." Asked if he was surprised if Fellaini had escaped a ban, Klopp said, "Surprised? No. What can I say?" (LIVERPOOL ECHO, 3/16).

Spanish third division club Real Murcia reached an agreement with La Liga to give up on the suit it filed two years ago over its administrative relegation. Former club VP Juan Antonio Samper reached a settlement with La Liga lawyers Jesús Loma and Francisco de Elizalde to avoid going to court (AS, 3/16).

An anonymous match commissioner "will preside over every A-League game that threatens to erupt into violence after a successful trial" at the Western Sydney vs. Sydney FC match several weeks ago. While the police presence was increased and the security lockdown extended, the match commissioner "was also installed" by Football Federation Australia and "given wideranging powers to call the game off if the crowd erupted" (Sydney DAILY TELEGRAPH, 3/17).

FIFA confirmed the worldwide extension of the lifetime ban imposed on Croatian player Saša Mus by the Disciplinary Committee of the Hong Kong Football Association for manipulation of the First Division League match played on November 30, 2013 between the clubs Happy Valley Athletic Association and Southern District Football Club (FIFA).
