Marketplace Roundup: Soccer World China Announces Two-Year Partnership With Man City

Events organization Soccer World China "announced a two-year partnership" with Man City. As part of the deal, joint branding will appear throughout Soccer World’s sport centers in China, and Man City "will send coaches to the Asian nation to help train children." Soccer World will also run competitions for children to go to Man City to receive both training and education at Etihad Campus facilities (SOCCEREX, 3/16).

NO VAPING: Super League side Warrington ended its sponsorship deal with electronic cigarette company Truvape and "opted to implement a complete vaping ban throughout the Halliwell Jones Stadium." Truvape "has been the sponsor of the South Stand at the ground for the past 18 months but that partnership has been brought to an end and from May 1 there will be a no-vaping policy as well as a no-smoking policy in force." There were protests in Jan. '15 after the Wolves "decided to lift a ban on e-cigarettes at the Halliwell Jones Stadium when the sponsorship deal with Truvape was signed" (RUNNING RUGBY, 3/17).

NEW VENTURES: Sportingbet signed a four-year agreement to become the official betting partner of Euroleague Basketball in Greece. The agreement is part of a relationship between Euroleague Basketball and Sportingbet that dates back to '05. The new agreement is the first that Euroleague Basketball has developed together with its joint venture partner, IMG, under a new commercial rights structure. Among the features of the new agreement, Euroleague Basketball is lending its support to a Sportingbet campaign denouncing violence in sport (Euroleague)

Malawi Premier Division side Nyasa Big Bullets "renewed their title sponsorship deal with the Nyasa Manufacturing Company for the next five years." The deal "had been threatened after some board members at the club rejected Nyasa's imposition of Sam Chilunga as the new chairman." The sponsorship will raise MWK500M ($725,000) for the Blantyre-based club "over the five-year period of the deal" (SOCCEREX, 3/16).

Queensland Rugby Union announced Bond University signed a three-year agreement across multiple categories. Bond University will remain naming-rights partner of National Rugby Championship side Queensland Country for the next three years, while also expanding its commitment to Queensland Rugby by becoming official coach partner of the St.George Queensland Reds and the university partner of QRU. As part of their sponsorship, Bond University’s logo will feature on the Reds’ coaching apparel (Reds Rugby).

Tata Consultancy Services announced a three-year partnership with the Virgin Money London Marathon to enhance the digital experience delivered to marathon participants. TCS will become the race’s official technology partner for the '16, '17 and '18 events (TCS).

Sina Sports announced it entered into a strategic relationship with IMG Academy to provide Chinese users with sports training and instructional content. Through the relationship, Sina Sports has launched a dedicated section for IMG Academy on its leading web platform, showcasing instructional training videos from the academy’s coaches and instructors. The announcement is an important piece of a growing initiative being undertaken by Sina Sports to engage Chinese online users as active sports participants (Sina Sports).

Man City
announced that it renewed its global partnership with recruiting firm Hays, committing to a further three years (Man City).

Formula 1 team Toro Rosso announced that beer brand Estrella Galicia 0,0 is reinforcing its commitment to F1 by strengthening the agreement signed last season. The brand will appear for the first time on the new STR11 of drivers Carlos Sainz and Max Verstappen. Estrella Galicia 0,0 will be present on the car bargeboards, increasing its visibility in comparison to last year (Toro Rosso).
