Off The Calendar: PGA Of America Cancels Annual Grand Slam Of Golf Event

The PGA of America has scrapped its Grand Slam of Golf event, citing scheduling issues around the tournament that dates back to '79. The offseason 36-hole event that featured the winners of golf’s four majors of the year was canceled in '15 amid fallout from Donald Trump's comment about Mexican immigration. The PGA of America now has decided to permanently eliminate the event. "The schedule is totally different (than) when we started in 1979,” said PGA of America Chief Commercial Officer Jeff Price. He added that with the PGA Tour’s wraparound fall schedule and the European Tour’s Race to Dubai, hosting the Grand Slam event put a strain on the players. “It had a great run,” Price said. “The timing is right to discontinue the event.”
