MLB Regular-Season Attendance Declines Slightly To 73.74 Million

MLB ended the '14 regular season with a total attendance of 73.74 million, a decrease of 0.4% and a second straight annual decline. Despite the slight fall, the total will still rank as the seventh largest in league history, extending a run in which the sport’s 11 best-attended seasons have occurred in the last 11 years. The Dodgers led individual clubs in attendance for the second straight year with a total of 3.78 million, while the Indians ranked last with 1.44 million. The Mariners posted the largest individual increase in attendance, while the Phillies had the largest decline.

MLB Commissioner Bud Selig had predicted an increase for the '14 season, bolstered in part by a strong second-half surge during the '13 season. But heavy ticket-sales drops in Philadelphia and Texas this season were each larger than the aggregate league decline and blunted gains seen in 17 of 30 markets.
