Aston Villa CEO Tom Fox Resigns With Immediate Effect Amid Uncertain Future

Aston Villa CEO Tom Fox "is the latest casualty in the club’s nightmare season, with more departures expected before the summer," according to John Percy of the London TELEGRAPH. Fox has resigned from his £1.25M ($1.8M) a year role with sources claiming "his position was 'untenable.'" He follows Sporting Dir Hendrik Almstadt as Villa prepares "for relegation to the Championship." Manager Remi Garde, Head of Recruitment & Scouting Paddy Riley and CCO Charles Wijeratna "are also facing uncertain futures in a forensic inquiry" led by new Chair Steve Hollis. Fox "was left with no option but to resign after it became clear Hollis was planning for the future without him." In a statement, Fox said, “The owner made it very clear last summer that he and I would seek to recruit a board that would put the club in a stronger position in the event that a sale didn't happen. As the board has taken shape, however, it has become clear that my role also has changed. While I am supportive of where the board is trying to take the club, it is my feeling that given the changes they are making, it makes sense for me to seek another challenge" (TELEGRAPH, 3/17).
